The Pros and Cons of Wearing Dog Clothes

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you are asked about dog clothes? Do you allow your pet to wear any clothing apparel? Perhaps you let it wear scarves, shoes, sweater, shirts and sometimes with accessories like shades, hat and jewelry. For some dog owners these things are all frippery. If you have anything against fashionable dog clothes, then maybe you are considering how your pooch might feel. You are trying to rationalize whether your pet would be comfortable especially when there are some owners who dress their pups socially and sometimes inappropriate for the weather.

Personally, I believe that pets should be kept comfortable all the time with or without clothes. There are times when wearing dog clothes seem unsuitable for your pet. However, do not close your mind for the possibility that there will come a time where your pooch would be greatly benefited when it wears dog clothes. So what are these times when wearing dog clothes seem appropriate? First, when your pet is sick. If your pooch is not feeling well, it wants to sleep and get more rests. A small shawl or blanket would be enough to keep your pooch comfortable.

Just make sure that it can cover your pet’s whole body. Another instance would be when the weather is very harsh. Even the Earth has lost some of its natural protection such as the ozone layer. The same principle goes for canines. Dog’s fur where designed to keep them living all through the ages that is why those breeds that live in the coldest regions of the world have very thick fur. But if you have a pet which is suffering from severe hair loss due to some skin diseases, wouldn’t you give it an extra shirt or sweater to keep it warm? During long and hard winters animals with such problems are in a difficult situation.

They obviously can’t keep themselves warm so if you stick to your belief that dogs can surpass those hard times, then maybe you need to think again. There are cases that even with their thick fur and body fats, some dogs still die when they are out in the snow. Your pooch is lucky to be adopted and kept safe and warm inside the comforts of your home. Giving it an extra sweater matters a lot. Extra hot weathers also poses a threat to your pet’s skin but this time they do not need an extra piece of clothing. However, when your pooch is also experiencing hair loss exposing its bare skin to the sun is not advisable and this time a piece of sun shirt would be very much needed.

When your pet has undergone some surgery which requires the removal of some hair, a piece of clothing would be also needed until its hairs grow back. If you have noticed, wearing dog clothes is usually advisable when the dog losses its fur or coat which is its primary protection against any weather condition. Be a wise and sensible owner! Understand the essence of wearing dog clothes and do not let your pet wear apparel especially when you know that they would feel uncomfortable.
