Dog Clothes - Top Four Reasons

What is the obsession with small dog clothes? It is very rare these days to see a tiny dog that is not wearing some sort of clothing or hair bow or at the very least a rhinestone charm attached to his collar. Of course there is always the functionality theory of clothing dogs. However, most pet owners who partake in this extravagant hobby do it for pure fun. We love to see the new styles that come out each season or cannot wait to get the hottest new trendy shoes. When we have children, the focus tends to turn toward them. We spend our time and money making sure that they are fashion forward and have the coolest trends. Sure that is great but our children need to wear clothes and shoes, right? So, why do we dress up dogs when we do not have to do it?

There are so many different reasons that people dress up their tiny pooches. Like stated earlier, there is no disputing that there are functional reasons for clothing our dogs in extreme weather conditions or if they are a hairless breed that needs protection. This is usually not why we do it. There are four main reasons that people dress up their dogs in tiny dog clothes. Some people may dispute these reasons but they are not at all negative.

Reason one: The most obvious reason is because they are just so darn cute! There is no arguing that a tiny little dog in a cute little dress or a sweater is adorable.

Reason two: We dress them up to draw attention. This is not meant in a negative way. Dressing our dog up when we take them out for a walk in the park can make for great start up conversation. Anyway, we love it when people say our children are adorable. So why can we not love it for people to compliment our dog.

Reason three: Our dog can sometimes be an accessory to what we ourselves are wearing. Many high society folks that you see carrying their dogs around with them, will change their dogs collar, clothes, shoes, hair accessories or carrying case to match what they are wearing.

Reason four: Expression! We can say so much about ourselves by what we wear. This translates over into doggie world too. We can express our own personality or the personality of our pooch through the dog clothes that we choose for our furry friends.

Regardless of why we dress our dogs up, one thing is for sure that it is a trend that does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. If your pooch will let you dress him up, then join in on the doggy fashion frenzy.
